Jars, Labels, Logos, and Lids! New Packaging for 2014.
It has been a whirlwind year here in our humble little basement office in lovely Hood River Oregon. Over the last year we have quietly been working on a major brand and packaging revision. We are proud to show you the fruits of our efforts! This holiday season, right now, we are beginning to ship our newly designed jam jar, wrapped in an updated and handsome label, and crowned with a bright shiny custom printed silver lid. We think it is a great upgrade and we hope you do too.

While the packaging has grown up as we approach our 10th year in business, the product that we make remains the same premium quality that you have come to expect from Oregon Growers. We remain committed to our local growers and to bringing you Farm Direct Specialty Foods – straight from the source.

Jars:
With the help of our friendly glass vendor in Portland we were able to custom design jar that we  feel is in keeping with the brand and our values while being able to be mechanically labeled. You see for the past 9 years we have been hand labeling each and every jar we make – that’s right hand labeling! While we loved the unique square jar that you all are accustomed to we simply could not label it on the production line. This caused a major a bottleneck in our operation and this problem needed to be solved. The solution is this jar. We like it!

Labels:

Our brand name was not particularly prominent on the old style labels. We felt like that was a problem on the grocery store shelf and needed to be addressed. After all we needed to redesign them for the new jar so the opportunity to upgrade was at hand. Folks often complained that the font we used for the flavors was hard to read and we agreed. Now the flavor and brand name is clear and very legible. We are very happy with the outcome and would like to thank all the folks who helped particularly Jan Meyer of Meyer Creative and Catherine Healy of Flint Designs for their design work and our local rock star artist Mark Nilsson for his iconic artwork that is synonymous with our brand.

Logo:
We were on a roll and wanted to address the same legibility issues with our product name that were present in our brand name. The company’s legal name is Oregon Growers & Shippers, LLC – quite a mouthful. Over the past many years we have come to refer to ourselves as Oregon Growers. That’s how we answer the phone and how we describe the company. We feel that it also represents the connection we have as a specialty food company to our most important vendors – the Pacific NW growers we buy our fruit from. We wanted a logo that was clear and prominent on the jar but that also had the old time “farmy” feel. After many revisions and we arrived at the logo you see here.

Lids:
To top it all off we needed a lid that pop’s on the shelf and we felt like a shiny silver lid was just the ticket. In the world of lids there are a lot of choices. We used to use a standard skirt lid (the size of the rim) and that did not have much weight and made the new jar look odd. We went with a larger lid(7 mm wider) a deep skirt lid to add heft to the jar and to balance out the proportions. We took the extra step to print our logo on it for added branding and to class it up even more!

We really like the way it all came together – we hope you do too.
